Equal Opportunities Policy
Introduction

The East Anglian Brass Band Association has, by tradition and since it's inauguration of 1st September 1931, always operated an unwritten policy of equal opportunities and no known bars have ever existed. However, at the beginning of the 21st Century it has become necessary to be seen to have a formal and acceptable Equal Opportunities Policy. This policy is laid down in the following paragraphs.

Membership

Membership of the Association is open to any British style brass bands which have a base in East Anglia as laid down in Clause 4 of the Constitution. It is recommended that member bands have their own written Equal Opportunities Policy.

Officers (Trustees), Executive Committee Members (Trustees) and Executive Committee Alternates

Officers (Trustees), Executive Committee Members (Trustees) and Executive Committee Alternates shall be elected as per Clauses 6 and 7 of the Constitution. Such persons shall be elected without discrimination against race, ethnic or national origins, gender, religious or political beliefs, colour, nationality, ethnic background, disability, age (except for any legal requirement as required for Registered Charity status), sexual persuasion, marital status or socio-economic status. It will be expected that any elected person will be mentally capable of holding a responsible post.

Events and Event Venues

The Association will not bar from it's events any person on the grounds of race, ethnic or national origins, gender, religious or political beliefs, colour, nationality, ethnic background, disability, age (except for any legal requirement), sexual persuasion, marital status or socio-economic status. In marketing public events the Association will undertake to reach as wide a cultural audience as possible.

The Association will ensure that any venue that is hired for it's events will be suitable for disabled access, free of steps or alternatively fitted with lifts suitable for wheelchair access. Wheelchair positions will be reserved at all events.

The Association will ensure that any venue hired will be fitted with disabled toilet facilities.
