On Sunday 16th October the East Anglian Brass Band Association held its Annual Brass Training Day at the Hewett Academy, Norwich. Sixty delegates from age 8 upwards had enrolled for the course.
The section tutors who were from Leyland Band were Ian Culross (sopranos, rep and front row cornets), Joe Martin (2nd and 3rd cornets), Dave Altham (flugels and tenor horns), Matt Brown (trombones) and Chris Doran (basses). James McLeod was course leader and euphoniums and baritones tutor.
The music studied was The Wizard (George Allan), Behold the Power of God (Christopher Bond), A Moorside Suite (Gustav Holst) and Love Divine, All Loves Excelling (W.P. Rowlands arr. Iain McKnight).
The delegates were also privileged to accompany Ian Culross in the beautiful solo Bring Him Home (arranged by Keith Wilkinson).
Association Chairman, Christine Wade said “Delegates were really looking forward to the day and with everyone in their seat fifteen minutes before the scheduled start time we made an early start to the day. The day was hugely successful. I was receiving emails saying what a fantastic day it had been even before I got home”.
The Association wishes to thank James, Ian, Joe, Dave, Matt, and Chris for an excellent day.
The Association is grateful to Norfolk County Council for a grant towards the cost of this event.
The 2017 Brass Training Day takes place on Sunday 24th September. More details and booking forms will be available in the New Year.
