Report on 2018 Brass Training Day

East Anglian Brass Band Association
Published by Stephen Wade in Notice Board · 22 October 2018
On Sunday 14th October the East Anglian Brass Band Association held its Annual Brass Training Day at the Hewett Academy, Norwich. Delegates from age 10 upwards had enrolled for the course. The tutors were from the World Number One Brass Band – Cory Band. This year saw a change to the format of the course in that there were two bands. The Andante Band was for less experienced players. The Allegro Band was for more experienced players. Altogether there were 80 delegates attending.

The Andante Band was led by Sion Jones and studied New Zealand (Pokarekare Ana), Caribbean (Yellow Bird), Brazil (Brejerio), Egypt (Streets Of Cairo), and Russia (Trepak).

The Allegro Band was led by Glyn Williams. The sectional tutors for the Allegro Band were Tom Hutchinson (soprano and solo cornets), Helen Williams (back row cornets and flugels), Ailsa Russell (tenor horns), Chris Thomas (trombones), and Robert Nicholson (basses). Glyn Williams was course leader and euphoniums and baritones tutor. Players in the Allegro Band studied Castell Coch (T.J. Powell), Balken Dance (Etienne Crasaz), Gota (Peder Karlsson arr. Tina Kvamme), and The World’s Greatest Storyteller (arr. Philip Harper).

The delegates were delighted to accompany Helen Williams in Under the Broadwalk (arr. Philip Harper).

Association Secretary, Christine Wade reported that the day had been thoroughly enjoyed by the delegates. One band said their delegates had all had a great day with the amazing Cory trainers.

The Association wishes to thank Glyn, Helen, Ailsa, Chris, Robert, Tom and Sion for an excellent day.

The 2019 Brass Training Day takes place on Sunday 20th October when the tutors will be from the Fodens Band.
